Welcome
to the 69th!!!
In April
1963, the 69th was constituted, to be part of the buildup of Special
Weapons forces in Germany by NATO. Later that same year, in September,
the Unit was activated in Hemer, near
Menden, where the Unit was Deactivated in May 1992.
Initially the 69th supported Canadian NATO troops, with the Honest John
missile system, in a manner similar to our custodial work throughout
NATO under any command
structure. Anyone at a Detachment knows what this is all about.
After the
Canadians left, the 69th
supported and provided special weapons custody for the 50 Missile
Regiment, UK. The Unit
converted to the Lance Tactical Missile System in 1976, replacing the
aging Honest John platform.
In 1985 the 51 Missile Battery (UK) was removed in a restructuring,
leaving the 69th supporting 3 UK Missile Batteries- the 15th, 19th, and
36th.
I have some great information from one LTC Dick Brown that we are
awaiting authourization from to post... He was there in some of the
early years, before "Menden" was part of the story. More on this later.
Here
you will find references to what we might recall from our time
there... picture galleries (see
admin
notes, right column) are
available as well- as well as links to
other information about the 69th, Menden, etc...
Please feel free to post to the message board(s), let us know if you
have pics we should post (I believe you can post your own in the
message boards as well), and at a minimum, please register on the
registration board so those that come in the future can perhaps find
you.
More is coming, but I need YOUR help! Send pics to
Admin@570thusaag.com, and I will put them in the gallery, or on this
page.
Any
commo and MP insignias or data missing, let me know the command unit
(brigade/command HQ level), and I will look into getting that data on
here.

The
following appeared in the final 59th Courier, the Brigade's
Newspaper... perhaps "inactivated" should have been "deactivated", but
it has been left as was printed.
69th U.S. Army Field
Artillery Detachment
The 69th U.S. Army Field Artillery Detachment was constituted in
April 1963 in the regular Army as the 69th U.S. Army Missile
Detachment. It was activated in September 1963 in Menden, Germany. It
was then reorganized and redesignated as the 69th U.S. Army Field
Artillery Detachment in June 1970 and assigned to the 570th USAAG. The
unit was inactivated in May 1992.
Temporary Administrative
Notes
(Note-
When you click on the gallery
link, you do NOT have to log in
to see pics... just click on album
list, and work from there. Other links will work for you as
well, just not the log in, unless you register. Otherwise, log in is
mainly for the Admin.)
Keep in mind, this is a big project, always in progress, so if
something does not work, or seems incomplete, there is probably a
reason other than your computer. Please come back and check from time
to time to see how things change, and what is added.
Initially, concerning this website and links within the site, you may
see a lot of redundancy perhaps, either with text or
layouts, when you look between sites/units (USAFADS). This is normal,
and this will change/improve over time.
An important note.
For these sites under the main site of 570th USAAG
to become complete, we need
YOUR help. Pictures, postings of information (either on message
boards or privately via email) are needed to make each Unit's site
under the 570th complete.
This
"Admin
side" of the site (this right column) will eventually be filled with
more textual data like
that on the left column...
